Artes Mechanicae, Episode 6: The Mechanical Arts as Poeisis, Pt. 1
In this episode of Artes Mechanicae, Austin Hoffman continues to elaborate on the mechanical arts and their role in imaging and glossing philosophy. The mechanical arts are an act of poiesis—imitative, creative making. Philosophy is likewise an act of poiesis. The mechanical arts are a counterpart to philosophy as a whole in that they represent cultivated skills which are necessary for the cultivation of wisdom.
